"Should Congress ban plastic guns?"

On Tuesday, December 3rd the Washington Post posted an article entitled "The House is really worried about 3d printed guns. So its voted to ban them." It starts off with a simple question that sums up the article pretty well, "Should Congress ban plastic guns?". I think printing guns has no true harm as long as they don't actually work. However, it is a scary thought that plastic guns could be brought into schools and other places a gun doesn't belong. I definitely agree with the ban on plastic guns as long as they can be used as actual weapons. I don't see anything wrong with a "toy" or "model" gun, but the idea of a plastic gun just seems unnecessary to me. Although the idea of printing exact models of Star Trek phasers and Batman gadgets would be pretty cool.

Commentary on Should Gay Couples Have Benefits

I agree with Melinda Ramos' article, "Should Gay Couples Have Benefits". I think all gay people deserve the same rights as everyone else and I especially think anyone in the military deserves these same rights. Its a shame that we live in a state that constantly discriminates against gay people and takes their rights away. And the example of  Judith Chedville and Alicia Butler really shows how unfair people can be to others when they don't understand certain aspects of the person. Gay people are humans just like us, they feel just like us, and they love just like us and they deserve to be treated as equals.

Where I Stand and What I Believe

I don't know what other people's views are on how our government should be and I don't really care. I probably should, but when its filled with so much debate over which side is absolutely right about everything and which side is absolutely wrong about everything, you start to just not want to hear other people's opinions because invariability it will make someone mad and start something. Both my parents are conservatives and follow almost all of the conservative beliefs. They do have other opinions too though, for example they believe in things like gay marriage, which isn't a popular belief to most republicans. Although I was raised in a conservative household, I grew up in Austin, Tx, the most liberal part of Texas. Most of my friends were raised democratic and my best friend who I've known since 2nd grade is subscribed to very liberal beliefs. But that's all they are, beliefs. No side is more dominant no side is right or wrong. We've had many Democratic presidents and many Republican presidents, yet we're still here going strong. I was raised with a split belief of how our government should be, I'd mostly say I'm a republican like my parents, economically I agree with them, but we do disagree on somethings.

Gay rights is quite possibly the biggest issue facing the nation and it seems to be a splitting the country in half. Although it looks like gay marriage is becoming legal in more and more states quickly, it still seems like half people oppose it. You can't blame people for being against it, sure it is messed up but its how they were raised. I'm for gay rights, I believe we should all be equal in that respect and thankfully I share that opinion with my parents. Although my parents and I agree on gay rights, there's one other big issue we disagree on and that's abortion. My parents are strongly against abortion, which is very understandable. I for one am pro choice and think if a woman wants an abortion that she should be able to get one.

The Best Reason to Bet on America

On Tuesday, October 8th, Johnathan Tepperman of published an article on the New York Times entitled, The Best Reason to Bet on America. In his article Tepperman recalls finally being sworn in as a US citizen, something he had secretly desired for a long time. He continues to go on about growing up in Canada and his reasons for wanting to live in the United States. Tepperman's main argument is that we should have faith in our Economy. He states, "Yes, the U.S. economy is still weak. But it’s also showing signs of new life, whether the rebound in manufacturing or the country’s dazzling innovation in energy, high technology, and higher education." Which is a good point. Tepperman seems to be directing this article to the many people who seem to think America is doomed forever. He gives good reasons and evidence from our past to show that its not and that America is getting better.

I agree with this article in that the economy is getting better and that we have good reason to stay loyal. Although I see America improving very slowly, I can definitely agree with Tepperman on the direction it is heading in. I can see he had good reason for writing this article as well. Many people seem to thing America is going down the tube and wont ever get any better and that they should get out now while they still can. I think this article will help further understand people's understanding that America is in a hard time but its going to get better over time. All people have to do is have faith.

Iran Ready to Discuss Nuclear Program

On Tuesday, September 24th, 2013, USA Today published an article entitled, ""Iran president ready to engage immediately in nuke talks". The article discusses the newly installed president of Iran, Hasan Rouhani's plan to discuss their nuclear program. Hasan Rouhani stated that Iran is ready to work with "responsible parties" and Tehran looks to resolve issues about its nuclear portfolio peacefully and with "full transparency".

I feel this article is worth reading because it faces an issue everyone has seemed to be worried about for several years now. Nuclear weapons have been a big concern in the eyes of the American public because not only are they extremely dangerous, but also there is so much mystery behind them. It seems every country has threatened to have nuclear weapons these days and the American people are quite uncomfortable with the idea that a nuclear war could start any minute. This article explains that Iran is willing to discuss nuclear weapons peacefully with America and that should calm down the American public some.
